Tiger Brand Mining Cable Global Certifications
Why are Tiger® Brand mining cables considered to be the best available?
Great question! Here are the key reasons:
- History – AmerCable and its preceding legacy companies have been producing Tiger Brand mining cables since 1923 – it is our core competency.
- Experience – We have a workforce with years of experience producing these cables, which are only made in one factory (El Dorado, Arkansas) for maximum quality control. We know how to make high-quality mining cables that work in real-world environments.
- Focus – Mining cables are a huge part of AmerCable. At other cable companies, mining cable is a low-priority product line. At AmerCable, mining cable is more than 50% of our total business. We are committed to safer, more productive mining.
- Continuous improvement – we get constant feedback from our end-users continually make our products better – meaning they will last longer in the harshest mining environments.
- Training & Education – AmerCable is the industry leader (no one else comes close) in mine site training and education. We believe an educated miner is a safer miner. Power cables require special handling for safer operation and to make them last longer. Each year we train 2,000+ miners in North America.
- Innovation – all major cable design innovations since 1995 have come from AmerCable. Others imitate, but we innovate!
- Support – our mining team members are not order takers. We understand the mining industry and the challenge of getting material out of the ground for processing.
What Global Certifications does Tiger® Brand currently hold?

- Round Trailing Cables – Type W, Type G-GC & Type SHD-GC
- Longwall System Cables – Type SHD-PCG & Type SHD-CGC
- Mine Power Feeder Cables – Type MP-GC (EP/CPE) & Type MP-GC (XLP/PVC or EPR/PVC)

Can I get factory-installed couplers on my mining cables?
Yes. Our Systems Group, located in Katy, Texas, professionally installs couplers on our Tiger Brand mining cables so they arrive ready for use. You tell us the coupler you want and we make it happen!
Does AmerCable sell mining cables in South America?
From 1995 – 2011, Tiger Brand was sold into the South American market. When we were purchased by Nexans in 2012, we were taken out of this market so we would not complete with other Nexans companies in that region. In 2025, we were acquired by Mattr and, in 2026, we began selling again into South America. Interesting fact – we were able to rehire our original sales team. We currently have sales reps in Colombia, Peru and Chile.
What cable jacket materials does Tiger Brand offer?
Tiger Brand mining cables are available in two jacket options.
- CPE – AmerCable’s thermoset Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) jacket provides the physical performance and strength needed to resist wear, tear, abrasion and compression cuts caused by everyday mining use. AmerCable’s time-tested mold-curing process creates a tough, durable jacket that’s a proven performer in mines throughout the world. Third-party testing proves Tiger Brand’s design and build are superior. AmerCable’s engineered cable construction includes a taped-core, integral fill and tandem extrusion of the jacket layers. Two-pass jackets, extruded in tandem, yield an inseparable bond between the layers. Integral filling of the cable core reduces torsion-induced damage.
- TPU – For extremely abrasive environments, AmerCable’s Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) jacket provides the extra-tough physical characteristics needed in the roughest mining environments. Compared to AmerCable’s standard CPE jacketing material, TPU provides 5X more abrasion resistance, 2X more tear resistance and up to 8% less jacket weight
If you have special jacketing requirements, contact AmerCable.
What are “Tiger Stipes” cables?
AmerCable’s standard Tiger Stripes provide an additional 21 color combinations for easier visual circuit identification. Stripes are vulcanized into the jacket and are available on contrasting jacket colors. Available on round CPE jacketed cables only.
AmerCable also offers reflective Tiger Striped cables. These cables have a stripe of reflective tape on the jacket that can extend the cable’s service life by reducing run-overs in low visibility situations. In addition to reducing run-overs, many surface mining customers deploy our Tiger Stripes Reflective cables beside pit roads to help guide their hauler drivers at night.
Can I get Tiger Stripes on a TPU jacketed cable?
No. Tiger Stripes are only available on CPE jackets. TPU is available in solid colors – black, blue, green, orange, yellow and red.
What’s the point of colored or color/striped mining cables?
The primary purpose is easier circuit identification, which enhances safety. Some mining companies use different colors for visual inventory, assigning a specific color or color/striped combination to specific equipment.
Does AmerCable offer RFID identification for mining cables?
In 2020, we learned how to add passive RFID strings into mining cables and conducted field trials. The conclusion from customers was it was not beneficial enough to justify the additional cost for the cable and the scanning equipment.
Does AmerCable make a trailing cable that lights up?
AmerCable produced ACTIV’LIGHT™ SHD-GC trailing cables for several years. This cable used a sting of LED lights that were energized by induced voltage from one of the conductors. Conceptually it is an interesting idea and it looks really cool at night. However, the cable was much higher in cost, challenging to splice, had a thicker OD that required a specially designed coupler and only lit up when the shovel is actively mining – meaning the cable could be fully energized but not lit. After COVID, the demand for standard SHD-GC trailing cables and lack of end users willing to justify the higher cost led to it being dropped from our product family. Most of our customers operating in low-light environments use our reflective Tiger Stripes, which is much more budget friendly
Are Tiger® Brand cables made in China?
No. Our cables are used in China, but ALL Tiger Brand cables are made at our facility in El Dorado, Arkansas USA.
