Bond Movie Reveals Powerful AmerCable Connection

If you have seen or are planning to see the latest James Bond film No Time to Die, there is a small but interesting connection to AmerCable. Near the end of the movie, a very modern, stealthy looking British Navy Destroyer fires missiles toward the island where Bond is operating. You’ll have to see the movie to know if 007 survives, but did you know that AmerCable provided the specially designed 15kV 4/C VFD electric propulsion cables on the featured ship, HMS Dragon? Working in partnership with GE Energy (formerly Converteam), AmerCable has manufactured these robust, vibration-resistant electric propulsion cables on all six of the Daring Class Type 45 Destroyers.

These are the first military ships to have diesel-electric propulsion systems, which are powered by two WR-21 advanced cycle gas turbine engines with intercooler and recuperator (ICR) heat exchangers. The ship has a top speed of 30 knots and a range of 7,000 miles. Each engine provides 25MW of power, which is some significant electrification at sea!

CIR-2 – The Flexible, Easier to Handle Alternative to Type MC Cable

Developed in 2002 as a flexible alternative to Type MC cables, CIR® has a proven track record for reliability and performance in offshore applications. AmerCable’s new CIR-2, designed for downstream facilities and land-based drilling operations, carries on this legacy.

CIR-2 cables are extremely tough and flexible, which makes them easy to handle, prep and install compared to Type MC. Because of flexibility and durability, CIR-2 can also be redeployed in upgrade or retrofit projects.

Find out why CIR-2 is a game changer in the OCP market!.

“ Two things contractors and engineers can’t stop raving about are the flexibility of the cable and the easiness of prepping for terminations. ”

Meglab Becomes AmerCable’s First Certified Cable Repair Center in Canada

Founded in 1994, Meglab is headquartered in Val-d’Or, Quebec, and manufactures, repairs and services electrical equipment for mining and industrial applications. To expand the services they offer, Meglab has successfully completed the high level of training required to be certified as an AmerCable Tiger® Brand Repair Center.

According to Meglab president Louis Valade, AmerCable-certified repairs can significantly extend the service life of mining cables. “We repair GGC and SHD-GC trailing cables in lengths from 45 meters up to 1500+ meters. This certification is a big plus for our customers and demonstrates the quality of our technicians.”

In order to certify Meglab, AmerCable first audited Meglab’s facility, equipment and work processes. Once approved for the program, AmerCable hosted technicians from Meglab at its El Dorado manufacturing facility where they learned the correct way to splice or repair Tiger® Brand from our top trainer, Mark Jenkins.

Stéphane Bilodeau, AmerCable’s Business Development Manager for Eastern Canada, observed, “We are happy to have Meglab offering local repair services, which will provide outstanding value for our regional customers.”

AmerCable is the mining industry leader in training and education, which, along with our high-quality products, has helped us become the leading mining cable manufacturer in North America. Each year our highly experienced field support team conducts training and education sessions at the mine for 1500 – 2000 miners. Proper repair and best cable handling practices are a vital part of mine safety and productivity. AmerCable believes an educated miner is a safer miner, and mine safety is our top priority. We also provide additional value by working directly with our customers to help them resolve productivity issues. The solution we offer could be as simple as providing additional training, changing to a different cable or coming up with a new cable design that resolves the issue.
